That happened to my son's dog. Lucy had to be crated for three months. My son and wife works full time, so it was somewhat a problem. Lucy is 5 years old. She jumped off the retaining wall. She was only allowed to go outside on a SHORT LEASH to use the bathroom. All other times, she had to be in her crate, or in his utility room, which was small. After the three months of solid confinement, then it was another 2 months of short walks--each day a little more distance was added, until a mile distance was reached. His doctor told him, even after the leg healed--no more throwing any toy. Lucy's toy fetching is forever over. That is so sad too, because she loved to play fetch.
