Default Tail docking

Hi everyone. I am new here. I have had a Yorkie or two in my home for about 25 years. They are my children. Although not a breeder, I recently had my female, Shadow, bred. The vet has advised me to bring in the puppies at 3 days of age for tail docking and dew claw removal. I have seen some with tails too short and some too long. What is the guideline to tell the vet as to the lengh to dock to? I plan to keep a male for myself and sell the rest. Then I will have Shadow spayed. Selling the puppies is going to be hard. A purchaser will need his pedigree with him before I will trust him/her with one of those babies. lol
