I think Maureen was mistaken. This litter and the parents may have been the ones in the garage.
The garage door had a row of tiny windows at the very top that were tinted very dark - like very dark sunglasses. One needed a tall chair or ladder to get high enough to even see through them. Even if you did see through the window, unless the light was on in the garage, one wouldn't be able to tell very well what kind of dog one was viewing - just the size of dog.
Maureen said they cracked the bottom of the garage about 3 inches and were feeling inside when her husband was there. Frankly, these weren't the greatest conditions to view dogs.
When I was first told about this Maureen, I was only told about dogs in the garage. Later, when another person reported the story there were dogs in the backyard as well. Maureen told me that later as well, although the number of dogs and puppies changed a bit between versions.
I think it was just very difficult conditions to really view anything clearly.
