Very simply a Biewer (pronounced Bee var) is a parti yorkie with its roots in Germany. They have certain standards that they must meet and are registered in Germany at this time. Most of the standards except for color are those of the traditional yorkie. (size, coat, build). Colorwise they must have white belly, tip of tail (undocked), feet/legs. Head usually has white, but does not have to have white. The main registry in Germany is the IBC. There have been several clubs established in the US for the Biewers, and many of these are starting their own registries to help in keeping records to aid in AKC acceptance. Unfortunately the clubs do not agree with each other on all of the standards, so they are not working together to get these wonderful dogs accepted into the AKC.
I feel that everyone working together is one of the most important issues the Biewer community faces. Unfortunately I have been the brunt of attacks by one of the clubs because I do not belong to their group. Makes for a lot of tension and not much fun at the dog shows.
