My grandma has ALWAYS been materialistic and obsessed w/looks. She believes in order to be successful in life you have to have a man. In order to get and keep a man you have to look good. Money, men, and good lucks are all that is important in life according to her.
That's kinda sad for your grandma.....your improving your self esteem by doing something meaningful, even if your a little scared, and that will give you a tremendous feeling of accomplishment and with that your self worth will improve so much that your weight issues might be something you'll be looking forward to tackling also ....

Grandma on the other hand apparently has been getting all her self worth by attaching herself to a man, her life must have been such an unhappy one for her, she desperately tried to get approval, acceptance, purpose, safety and security all her life through a man......men are here to share our lives not BE our lives...she must feel so empty now, when her looks fade she has nothing to fall back on...what a shame for her...you almost have to feel sorry for her rather than angry....
