Crate training will help both with the housebreaking and the houseTRAINING! i.e. Getting him used to normal house life and a family routine.

Give him a chance to observe your home and routine from a "safe place" (his crate) and he will feel more secure.

Obviously don't leave him in there for hours at a time - you'll want to offer him the option to go poddy every hour or so. We find that saying "Good Outside" when they go is a good cue for them becuase later we're able to say "Do you need to go outside?" and they understand what we're asking.

Good luck! And God Bless for rescueing this poor boy.
