He sounds like he has been through a lot! Poor little thing. How wonderful that you can give him a home!
As far as size, the standard is up to 7 pounds. However, there have been purebred yorkies that have gotten up to 25 pounds! Oh, well, just more of him to love, right?
As for potty training, with lots of work and diligence you can probably be successful. Consistency is the key.
