I couldn't figure out the whole knot thing...what the heck is a square knot anyway??? I just tied them all the same and I think it looks pretty good.
I used masking tape and I marked dots on the masking tape for each cut. The masking tape showed me how deep to make the cut, and the dots told me how far apart to cut. I also cut a square at each corner. Just make it the way you like it.
