Two feet or deeper is right (from Kyle?) to keep fish in ponds from freezing. I don't like to take chances though and bring ours indoors for the worst of the winter. As long as we clean the filters weekly we don't have any problems with ours getting murky. We have 3 - 5" goldfish and 2 - 3" ones in the same pond. A general rule of thumb is one inch of fish per gallon of water.

Chachi your pond is very pretty, I love the slate type rocks you used. Here are pictures of the second pond we've put in here. The water hyacinths completely cover the hoses now.
