an outside tie, is when the bulbis glandus (the base of the penise) is swollen outside the female. The facilitator can hold the dogs together of an outside tie. Then there are times, that the dogs have little action time but manage to ejaculate anyhow. I believe those are called slip matings. Someone with more knowledge feel free to come along and correct me, they could be the same thing.
