I have an idea that I'd like to patent. I was told to go to a patent lawyer to write the patent and file it and such, but it could run anywhere from $6000-$10,000 dollars.

Then yesterday my sister's boyfriend said that I don't need a lawyer and I can do it myself.

Anyone have any advice on this? All comments appreciated.
