I have this as well. They discovered I had this when I was 12 years old and have been on BC pills since. I am now 26 years. But you must know there are varying degrees of POCS. Some people have it and never have a lot of cysts on their ovaries and some people have a lot of cysts that are very painful and have to have their ovaries removed, etc. Also the weight gain, excessive hair growth on face and stomach, as well as hormonal levels that are out of whack usually are indicators of POCS along with cysts on the ovaries. I luckily have only have had a few cysts over the years and never needed surgery and they just popped on their own...very painful. The BC pills and water pills balanced out my hormones correcting the weight as well as the hair growth.
After that was all corrected, I was told by the doctors that POCS wouldn't really be an issue until I decided to get pregnant....which I haven't yet so I can't help you there. But they have told me two things...since I have been BC for so long that it would help me get pregnant faster. However, if not and I can't produce an egg on my own, then I would need help from an infertility specialist since POCS can also mean you are infertile. But like I said, I'm not there yet so I can't help you there.
Also they recently found a link between POCS and type II diabetes so you should make sure you get checked regularly for Type II, which can easily be avoided by eating healthily. Also if you are diagnosed with POCS make sure you get check regularly for cancer as there is a link there as well. My doctor has me see her twice a year for check-ups and I get full blood work up once a year.
Hope this helps. |
