I use the frontline plus for small dogs on my 4lb. Maximus and he has done fine with it...the only difference for the bigger dog boxes is the amount...because there is more dog that needs to be covered, it is VERY safe, I went through it with my vet and asked a million questions...I believe revolution is also very good!!!
