You're right about the new environment. They need time to adjust. I also had a young female that did not like to play with toys or other dogs. Never did. She was a one person dog and would protect you with her life. She was as sweet as she could be, but did not like to be messed with. She was NEVER abused. She had run of the house and slept with us. Just a difference in personalities.
