it is also about the same cost here in Houston. but our humane society doesn't keep the animal overnight.
if your puppy has all his shots and is in otherwise good health, i think you should be ok w/the humane society. they most likely keep him overnight for observation and that would make me feel good. maybe you could bring him a blanket with your scent on it for comfort.

and, it's better to get the neutering done then to wait because of money.

talk to the vet at HS and ask them their procedures. it will probably be close to the same as at the vet office.
