While you are working with him try getting him to sit more than once before giving him a treat. Keep the treats in hand and have him do a few tricks then give him a treat but praise after each trick. Slowly increase the amount of tricks he has to do before the treats. Try to pretty much weed out the treats and substitute them with praise at least with the older tricks and until he learns that he doesn't always get treats. One other thing that I learned in obedience was to only tell them once, I don't know if you are doing this or not. But only tell him sit once and if he doesn't sit you put him into sit. Supposedly they learn that you only tell them once and they have to do it.

Maybe some of this will help. Most importantly just keep trying the more you work with him now the better he will be in the future.
