If you wouldn't mind an older yorkie, I would definitely recommend a rescue. There are so many out there looking for homes. If they're in a foster situation, they can tell you so much about the dog; how it interacts with other pets, humans.
Yes, puppies are great, but just think of what you would be doing for a homeless yorkie.
