Here's a way to tell if it's reverse sneezing or something else: When your furbaby's making that AWFUL noise, plug his or her nose by gently but firmly covering the nostrils with your finger. They will open their mouth to breathe since you're plugging their nose-if they stop making the noise, it's reverse sneezing. Sounds funny, but it works! | I do that too with my Bitsy... she has the reverse sneezing thing from time to time.
