Sounds like reverse sneezing. I too rushed Emma to the vet after she had a few attacks of it-like 10 in a row! They make that noise because there's a tickle between their nose and throat, usually caused by something in the air.She gets them with allergies, and got some meds to help her with it late last summer. So far she's been ok this summer-but we'll see how things go.

Here's a way to tell if it's reverse sneezing or something else: When your furbaby's making that AWFUL noise, plug his or her nose by gently but firmly covering the nostrils with your finger. They will open their mouth to breathe since you're plugging their nose-if they stop making the noise, it's reverse sneezing. Sounds funny, but it works!

I do that too with my Bitsy... she has the reverse sneezing thing from time to time.
