It just takes time for them to get used to it. My Ziggy had a bad experience with a groomer and I started doing it myself. He acted just awful at first and tried to jump out of the sink. But now he loves a bath and the blow dryer. Still not crazy about brushing though.
Bribing really helps...you can try to reward them with a treat if you can get them to stand still for a few seconds.
