Both people and dogs with diabetes usually are over weight and exhibit excessive thirst (to dilute the sugar.) they don't have to be overweight but that predisposes diabetes to develop. Kidney trouble is best checke by blood chemistry as symptoms can vary. the creatinine is the sensitive indicator of renal or kidney function.
