Reagan, although she's a gal, would start out in the middle then walk all around while still going and lord only knows where she'd finish. You may try putting the pad in some sort of box. I used a box that you would store sweaters and such under the bed that I got a walmart. I believe they even have boxes especially for pads at petsmart but I'm not positive. Anyway this may help him know where exactly the pad ends and he will have to stay in that area.
