the new dog is being possessive! Some of you know the whole story, but in short, I have 3 yorkies, 3.5 yrs, 11 months and 6.5 months. I recently "acquired" a maltese who is just over a year. I've had her for almost 2 months now and we call her Lucy Lu. They are all female.
Lucy is very skiddish - any movement or the slightest sound and she takes off running! Vixxen, my oldest, doesn't play much with any of them, she just minds her own business. Lucy doesn't know how to show affection really, so her way is to jump up and scratch at you. She does this to the other dogs as well. The one who really doesn't like it is Vixxen! Vixxen's little snarls and quick snaps are not getting through to Lucy Lu! So far....there have been no injuries!
The latest thing I've found though, is when there are bones/bully sticks etc, laying around, Lucy is being possessive and literally lunging at the others if they come near her! I intervene but I fear the only reason she "allows" me to, is because she is so skiddish and she takes off running if I start coming near her!! What the heck do I do? Is this a sign that things will only get worse with her? I'm not sure how to correct this? And I absolutely do not want one of the girls hurt!! Especially if I am not at home!
What do you think and what would you do?
