I think the hold would actually be temperature controlled anyway.
I have seen a dog travel to spain, it was in the hold, and when we got off the plane it was left near the little rotary things where you get your luggage unsupervised, left for the owner to come and get him! Anyone could have robbed the poor mite, lucky it was a big dog that looked a bit fierce
