I'm so thankful I home cook and have peace of mind. All that dried up kibble in bags is NOT real food. I wouldn't feed my dog anything that I wouldn't eat, and I certainly wouldn't eat dog food.
You know what would be an interesting field trip for all of us to do would be to pick one of the dog food companies, call them, try to get a tour of the plant where the food is made, and get as much information as possible and share here what you find out. First, make sure you let everyone know first which one you want to check out so it isn't repeated by someone else.
Who's up for this?
Whole Dog Journal is requesting this information for next year's list. They take this list very seriously and they do not accept any sort of advertising. You have to pay to subscribe because there are NO ads. Each issue has 4-5 in depth articles written by experts. They are like the consumer reports for the dog world. I have subscribed for several years now and I pay for the subscription for our local library as well.

I think Orijen was too new - I bet it will be on there next year. They spend months compiling the lists.

Also, the list itself doesn't give all the information. There are certain formulas they endorsed and others they didn't. Half of them have notes on them, stating whether they think they are a great food or just acceptable. They also have an entire article prior to the list that explains how to determine if YOUR food is good or not and what to look for.

The Feb. issue always has the dry food list. The canned food list is in the March issue. Trust me, it's worth the $20 subscription.
