I think it is because they see their reflection in the stainless!!
I really prefer them and we also use little clear glass "salsa" dishes for Toto. Maybe I prefer them because that little 1/8 cup of food looks like more to me!!
I also like stainless and glass because you can put them in the dishwasher!
