Hi all,
I just signed up today and have been doing nothing but researching these Yorkshire Terriers. Interesting dogs I must say.
I just bought this dog this past Sunday for my girlfriend and she has been a handful to say the least. She was born April 28th of this year.
I've been reading up a lot on this potting training and all I can say is I know now why my parents would never let me have an inside dog when I was little.
Anyways, my front yard consists of a parking lot (I live in town right next to a restaurant) and my backyard you open the door and there's a house. Just enough room to walk (a sidewalk if you will). There is a lawn to the side of the house beside the deck, but I'm not sure how good this will work considering its the neighbor's side yard.
So basically it looks like I'm stuck training the thing on pads. The first few days we had her she did good. Praised her and gave her treats for peeing/pooping in the right spot.
Now when I take her to the pad, she sniffs, does her little "omg I gotta go" dance, then walks about 6 feet away and goes on the carpet. I immediately put her on the pad and say, "potty." I do this every time I put her on the pad, but no luck.
I think I've narrowed it down to 2 spots she likes to pee. I have some cleaner, but you guys seem to like the Nature's Miracle a lot so I may need to buy 34979283 gallons of it and fill my entire apartment with it.
So now I'm basically trying to figure out if training on the pad is the best for her or to take her outside. I know I haven't had her for long and I know this is going to take awhile. I'm just trying to not give up on one certain way and try another since that will only confuse her.
Well, I know this post was long. I orginally intended to say, "Hi, I am a new owner to a Yorkie and was just wanting to say "hi"." But yea, I started thinking about her and thought I'd share.
