Research is the key.
Check out the breeder see how much they know about the breed, what their goals are toward the breed, check out their Vet to see what type of care their dogs gets and if they have had any major problems..etc.
In my area most look for those 300-400 dollar Yorkies.
I don't charge as much as most and most who do call think I'm high.
but
My are all in standard with health testing,
straight back, good bites, upright ear..etc.
My moms all get checkups before breeding,
X-Rays right before pups are due.
My Vet does puppy checkups, shots, wormings, tail docks, dew claws..etc.
I went through all of puppyfind just looking at some of the Yorkies and I only seen just a handful that I thought were nice looking pups.
Seen a lot more of badly bred ones both low and high priced.
Just because a dog runs high does not always mean it's Quality,
I have seen those who take advantage of other because of tiny, t-cups and off colored pups.
While I understand the tiny ones require more time and attention to raise,
I just think some of these prices are over the top.
I think I made a breeder mad one time because she was selling small Chocolates for 3,500.00 and I made the comment ..That IMO if I were going to pay that much I'd look for a CH Sired Standard to Show.
When I ask her about genetics she said she didn't know anything about it.
All she knew was that she got Chocolates when she bred the two dogs together.
Anyway IMO I think you can find a nice looking, healthy pup for under a 900.00 but you just have wait sometimes, to do the research and check out the breeder really well. |
