I think if you put her whelping box in the closet it will be fine BUT, when the babies start climbing over the side you are going to have a problem. I put an X-pen right at the foot of my bed a few days before whelp time . I put my whelping box ( an underbed plastic storage from Walmart0 in one end. I also use pish pads in the whelping box so the puppies don't get lost in towels or blankets. I don't put the mommies in until about a week before due date. They usually sleep in the x-pen not the box. their choice. About three days before the due date, I throw an old towel in the box kind of semi folded so I can tell when mama starts to "dig her nest'. As it gets closer to time, she starts jumping in and out of the box for a few minutes at a time then when she is ready, she gets in the box like she just knows what to do and stays there until babies are born. About the heating pad, I have never used moist heat. i don't think anyone else does either. Also, i only put it under half the box so mama has a place to "get away" if she gets too hot. problem is, babies gravitate towards mam so i usually end up using the heat lamp about the second day. i don't leave it on all the time either. my house is good and warm and i check puppies frequently. Like every half hour or so. if they feel the least bit cool, on goes the lamp. hope this helps.
