The vaccine is just for Lyme disease. There are other tick borne diseases that there is no vaccine for but they can be treated with antibiotics. Do you not use a topical like FrontLine or so? Keeping the ticks off might be the best way to go. I would recommend you ask your vet about that. The ticks that are easy to see are NOT theones that carry Lyme disease but they do carry the Rickettsiae which can cause Rocky Mt. Spotted fever.
I am glad to hear the vaseline worke. If ever that doesn't work, try a cap full of alcohol held over the tick til it backs out. They take in air thru their bodies and you are suffocating them.A small amount of cooking oil, orany oil, will do the same thing. You can use the cap from the bottle is you have nothing else. Keep camping and keep healthy. |
