My puppies are now on a two meal a day schedule. I don't leave anything down for them in between out of concern for their weight. They both eat whatever they can get their mouths on, so they would be piggies in no time! They each get 1/3 cup food in the morning and evening--this seems to work very well for them. I have a much older larger dog that has always eaten twice a day.
When my puppies were smaller they ate up to four times a day.
