I had a trainer at my house and also found this advice in one of the monks of new skeet books. Put your yorkie on a long lead - they sell them at walmart for about $6. it should be 15 or 20 feet. You'll need at least one person to help you. Have someone to take them out to the end of the lead and then you are at the other end and call. If they don't come, you pull on the lead. You can even do the same thing with a group and you all stand in a circle and toss the lead to the next person. I personally don't use treats for this only positive praise. It becomes a game for them and you might see that they actually enjoy it. And never yell at your baby after they come to you no matter how frustrated you might be or how long you may have had to chase them you have to praise them. Also, a trick I saw on It's me or the dog is that if they run off, call them but sit or lay on the ground. This will spark their curiosity - at least thats what she said- and they will come back to investigate. I have not tried that myself yet .... |
