To deal with them messing with the tape, teach them the LEAVE IT command. This command has helped me a lot. When i say it my boy stops what he is doing and looks at me. After a while he didn't even bother messing with the tape on his ear, cause he knew that I would stop him. This also kept him from licking his stitches when he was neutered. It may help those having problems.
