I guess the biggest thing is to purchase a dog from an experienced breeder who has the mother and father on site and that has information on the grandparents. This will give you a better estimate of what your puppy will weigh as an adult. Or your second option would be to purchase a puppy that is a little older - four months to six months. Usually by six months their growing starts to slow.
Of course not many of us know all of this information when we purchase our puppies (at least I didn't).
My first was about the same weight as yours at 4 months and as a two year old adult she is about 9 - 10 pounds. She is solid muscle.
My second is a whopping 3 and a half pounds at almost a year old. |
