HI Brooke!
I was just wondering if you use a slicker brush on mats. I never have a problem getting a mat out with one of those. Also I think it's strange that your groomer would tell you not to cut a mat out. If you have a very bad mat you cut into the mat vertically and then use the slicker brush to comb it out layer by layer. Works very well.
