Default Biggie: Escaping from the crate

Our Biggie is crated while we're at work. In the past few weeks he's discovered that if he bats at the latch for the crate long enough he'll eventually get lucky and get it completely unlatched to let himself out.

Has anyone else experienced this?

When he gets out it appears as though he plays joyfully and rests on the bed peacefully. We do not have any problems with him going potty in wrong places, tearing up or destroying anything (other than chewing on paper) and he seems very happy and content when he's able to get out of the crate....almost proud of himself for figuring it out.

At this point we're not sure if we should get a lock for the crate or if we should just let him be to roam the house while we're at work since he appears to be causing no harm when he's out?

Thoughts?

We have a hard time being mad at this face for getting out as he's not doing anything wrong.
