How do you explain death to a 4-year-old? When Lily passed, my daughter told my granddaughter (Larissa) and she was upset and didn't want to believe it. She said to her mommy: "no mommy, that's not true, don't talk about that". So, my daughter let it go.
The following weekend, my daughter and her hubby brought the kids over. Larissa came running to me as usual and when I hugged her, she whispered in my ear "grandma I'm so sorry about Lily", and she gave me a kiss. Of course, I started to cry a little and so did she. It was just the sweetest moment.
A little later, I showed them where we buried Lily, and Larissa said "oh no, grandma, why did you bury her in the ground? How is she supposed to go to heaven that way?" I explained that Lily is already in heaven because it's her soul that goes to heaven. I told her Lily isn't sick anymore and that she's having fun running and playing with all the other angels. That explanation seemed to make her happy.
Larissa only saw Lily one time and already loved her. Lily sure did leave a big impression on everyone's heart. RIP sweet baby girl. |
