But it is when they are truly overweight. Loki is 12 pounds and should be 11. He packed it on with treats and no exercise over the winter. I reduced his food and cut back on the treats. So far it's working but slowly. You don't need to switch to a weight control food. Just ask the vet how many calories she should be eating and feed that amount. If you need to do training, just hand feed the kibble instead of putting it in a bowl.
Sammy is skinny but VERY fluffy - people think she is fat because her hair is so thick, and then they pick her up and she weighs nothing!
