Glad to hear his surgery went well!

I set up an ex-pen instead of a crate. I didn't use their bed because I didn't want them to even step over the edge....instead I folded up a blanket and used that.
I gave them enough room to stand and get a drink.

The first few days or even longer they have to use a belly strap to help support their weight while walking. I found it to be way too big and instead used a soft chenille scarf. It was longer and easier for me to handle.

Make sure he eats before all his medicine to avoid tummy upset. Both mine came home with pain meds, an antibiotic and a morphine patch on their leg.
