I'll probably give the bedroom another try but I think this is different from new tiny puppies that really need to hear your voice or touch for reassurance. She is 9 months old and will sleep through about 50% of her nights. Talking and reassuring didn't help when she was in our bedroom and I'm concerned this actually reinforces the barking behavior - this is not puppy whining or light barking either. I would call this demand barking - "let me out" - LOUD.
I do think exercise is what I need to increase - she has huge energy. I will try the kitchen idea, so thanks Shelbysmom - I have hardwood floors and though I don't want her peeing anywhere in the house at least they are easy to clean and hopefully won't have a long term smell as carpet does (by doggy standards, that is). I looked into treadmills from another post but they are around $1200! That experiment is too pricey for me.
Off to take another nap - I'm really pooped and worn down right now .... |
