I had 2 Maltese before getting Copper. My experience was...I loved them. The first was a male, Spook, and he was definately "my dog" They seem to pick one person as has been said before. His hair was more silky and fairly easy to groom. He lived to be 15 years. The next maltese was a female, Misty, took to my husband...followed him everywhere. I think a lot of their personality has to do with what you do with them. Neither of my maltese liked to travel. Probably because I did not socialize them as I should have. We didn't get Misty until she was 6 months old, and I think that was a part of her shyness. She lived to be 16 years. But they are very sweet dogs...calmer...at least mine were. The personality is totally different. Grooming is a chore with them, I had both puppy cut. Spook remained long until I had kids, but then It became too much for me to raise children, work and groom. Now my kids are grown and I have a little more time. Copper is quite a challenge to keep still long enough to groom, but is much easier to comb than both the maltese. Hope this helps.
