She said to do something (without your dog really knowing its you) really LOUD and kind of scary. She suggested the pop can with pennies, or a cookie sheet and a wooden spoon. And when your dog starts to bark and then the loud noise comes, they'll start to realize everytime I bark that mean pop can scares me. Or that loud scary noise happens when I bark. Does that make sense? Thus far Keeley isn't barking much, but I am sure going to have to do some of these things when he does.
ALSO *very important to remember* Dogs need to be allowed to bark at least a little. It is how they communicate. It is time to use the tricks when the barking becomes excesive.
Hope that helps a little, I know someone in my class was having a really hard time with their puppy barking all the time and that is what the instructor suggested to her. | Thank you sooo much! That is so helpful to know! |
