AKC registration does not rule out there being any weird problems from inbreeding. A bit of information.....the best breeders in the country closely line breed. Out-crossing and breeding to this dog and that dog creates a multitude of problems The standard is there for purpose, to keep the breed true. As breeders we should be breeding with the standard in mind and to improve the breed. Putting 2 dogs together without that in mind...mmmmm well then that's why you see so many yorkies that don't look like yorkies.
If you didn't uphold the standard then you wouldn't have the yorkie as we know it today. I know I fell in love with the breed because I saw a beautiful representation of a yorkie and wanted one. It's just my opinion that there is way to much emphasis on weight on these threads.
