My 2 always have a leash on, especially Maddie who took off overnight last year, but they are getting better without me holding it. Is there a fenced in area you can take your baby to? If there is, just work with them there.
Another thing I've taught all 3 of my dogs is "car ride" and "inside." If I'm outside and one of them starts to run, all I have to say is "Inside!" and they'll run to the steps so I can catch them. and if they run out the door, I yell "car ride!" and they run to the car. Those are helpful if they don't come to me. |
