I was looking for a yorkie girl for months. I did speak with many breeders, I went to see some puppies, but I have some requirements, so I did not buy the first one. On top of that, I was pretty educated buyer and new about good breeders and bad breeders and about yorkie standard, how to choose puppy, etc. BUT> I knew NOTHING about Puppy mills at that time(I am from another country and we do not have them).
regarding my breeder... I was in situation when breeder lied to me professionally. Example: I knew how yorkie pup looks like, but I didn't know details about age when fluffy coat become more silky as should be. So I was told that my pup is "definitely silky" (I mean coat, since I was looking for a good quality yorkie and was ready to pay more money for that), that she is just too young. That is not true: after purchase I showed my pup to a show breeder and received an answer: sorry, your pup will never be silky, she has wooly coat.
Second lie: I did NOT see the parents. I was told, that this is a pup she got because she has a male to breed. I asked: where the father then? She said: right now he is in another house for breeding purpose.
So many red flags, including many breeds, but I decided that this breeder just doesn't work with only one breed. I decided that this is just minus, but Oh ... I did NOT know about puppy mills...
But I bought her at age of 14 weeks, from the cleanest house I have even seen, I got guarantee, etc...
Anyway, when I cough her on lie, I decided to ask about her on public forum. I received so many e-mails.... I had a shock. This is HOW I found out about puppy mills, and now I hate them all my heart.
However, I am HAPPY with my girl, shse is just best dog I have ever have, she has BEST intelligent personality, never run from me, doesn' bark, loves children and people. She is just BEST.
But I can imagine how her parents look like

. I don';t know her sublins...
If you don't mind, I will copy my post from another topic.
How to chose a right breeder:
The best choice is YTCA.org since most of show responsible breeders belong to a club.
Please, just be careful when you are looking for a yorkie pup. Unfortunately, many back yard breeders around.
Before you chose a breeder please do your homework what responsible breeder is. Just google "back yard breeder vs responsible breeder"
Below a few tips:
- a good breeder will not sell yorkie earlier that 10 weeks. Run from a breeder who sell a pup at age less that 8 weeks
- you MUST see at least one parent. If a breeder doesn't show them, this is big RED FLAG (puppy mill?)
- you MUST receive a guarantee. And WITHOUT fraise "no money back, only replacement a puppy". Too many sad stories when BYB sell sick puppies and no one pay a vet bills, even if pup died. Just think - do you really want to replace for another defective puppy from a BYB?
- PLEASE READ STANDARD. When I was looking for a pup, I was told that yorkie standard is 10-12 pounds. Well, not only idiots around, how she probably thought

. There are a few quality of yorkies, and some breeders charge way too much money for a POOR BREED pup (fluffy coat, disproportional body, oversize, etc)
- NO such a thing as teacup/short hair yorkie or whatever. Those word people love to use as marketing words. There is ONLY one standard: not exceed 7 pounds ! Period.
RUN from a breeder who breed too tiny yorkies less that 3 pounds.
-RUN!RUN from a breeder who sells mutts, and has more than two breeds. You will find a lot mutts in local shelters or certain breed rescue
-RUN from a breeders who is able to ship a pup EVERYWHERE without asking ANY questions
-A good breeder usually tries to find a local buyer and always asks many questions about future home condition.
-A good breeder tries do not sell a yorkie to family with small children because yorkie is very fragile for them.
