I remember a very informative thread by Kim King..she said a red leg does NOT produce a red leg puppy..she had a red leg and has researched this subject. All her pups were heavy coated.

The decision is up to you. You mentioned the price of $800 being very fair for your area for a purebreed...if I was in doubt, I would buy another puppy from another breeder.
