Doesn't matter if its a single, half or double stitch; the concept is the same.
That's how my mother taught me many years ago. AND I'm self-handed and she was right-handed, so I sat across from her and did what she did - exactly backwards! When it was time to teach my daughter, I did it the same way and she learned easily.
