I cut out red meats and fats. It works great for me. And I still get to eat carbs and sugar (but I don't overdo). And no salt(except on french fries which are a treat). Seriously, I can ean junk food, cookies, etc. if I do this. But I think different diets work on different body types. Oh, I live on veggies and fruit and chicken. My dtr does the slim fast diet and that works good for her - doesn't work for me. Atkins seems to work great for guys.
