A wish and a prayer helps a lot!
It takes time and patience. I find it was easier to place Schatzie's top knot bows in when her hair became long enough to hang on to and have something to work with. If Maximus keeps moving around and such a "stay" command might be helpful and give lots and lots of positive praise and maybe a treat when you are done.
