You don't have to live on acres to have these threatening critters. We live in a little community where our houses are close. We still have hawks, owls, raccoons, skunks, opossums, badgers & mountain lions. We don't let our girls outside even in the fenced yard unless one of us is with them. When a couple of our boys were in Jr. high, they took our Boston over to the grade school to let her run off leash on a very large field. (we always stressed to them never let her off the leash, but they did anyway) It was during the day, but an owl still swooped down trying to get her and the boys running and screaming and waving their arms. The dog at the last minute did a 180 and ran like crazy back toward the boys while the owl just missed getting her. I'm sure the owl would not have been able to lift her up and carry her away, but those talons would have cause some very serious injuries and she could have even died. Keep them on leashes when your out because things can happen so very quickly. |
