update:

i called the breeder to ask a few questions, and then she tells me that our pup had an eye injury as a result of a fight when she was little. they took her to their vet, who gave some steroid drops and told them the dog was fine. i wasn't told any of this before we took her home.

so yesterday, i took her to my vet, who told me that her lens is dislodged, she has a cataract and scarring from the injury, and she is definitely blind.

there's really nothing we can do for her, but i feel like the breeder wasn't entirely honest with me. as a matter of principle, i think i'll ask for some money back (even though it's definitely not about the money - i'm just a little choked that a) i wasn't told; and b) their vet said the dog was fine.
